About Us
Who we are
Nasira Habib – an educationist, environmentalist and organic gardener – is the founder of Organica Pakistan. She is a graduate of the University of Essex (England) and the Institute of Social Studies (Netherlands). She believes in education that is relevant, integrative and participatory. She has been championing the inclusion of growing food, based on the laws of nature, in the school curriculum.
Currently, she is a participant of the Soil Food Web foundation course taught by the renowned American microbiologist Dr Elaine Ingham.
She has researched, experimented, taught and grown organic food in diverse conditions. She is the author of گھریلو باغبانی (a manual on organic home gardening), بچوں کی باغبانی ( a handbook for children on ecological gardening) and Invisible Farmers among other publications. She has also learnt and exchanged ideas and experiences with organic gardeners and farmers of Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Cambodia, Vietnam and Germany. She is also a member of several international movements on organic farming. She specialises in home and school gardening and has experience in organic rice and wheat cultivation.
She is the winner of an FAO award for her services in the field of agricultural extension. She is also a member of the steering committee of Pesticide Action Network Asia & the Pacific.
In addition, she has run campaigns against the hazards of toxic chemicals used in food production.
She has been training children and adults to grow food following the natural patterns of growing food for around three decades.
Organica Pakistan has been launched in response to the ever-increasing demand by home gardeners for open-pollinated seeds, organically-grown plants, gardening tools, training, and other materials.
Our History
Under Nasira Habib’s leadership Organic kitchen gardening projects have been run in urban and rural areas for around three decades. Awareness building campaigns on safe food and safe environment have been undertaken. Hands-on trainings on growing organic food gardens are being organized.
On the Earth Day in 2021, a campaign titled Grow One Thousand Organic Edible Urban Gardens has been launched. All of you are invited to join the campaign.
