Together, We will Grow One Thousand Organic Edible Urban Gardens
Our planet is out of balance, and our greed is destroying nature. Our soil, air, water and food are poisoned. Scientific studies suggest that we are eating contaminated food in Pakistan. Pesticide residues in our vegetables, fruits, meat, grains and cotton are far more than the maximum residue limits. We are breathing in poisonous air. It is hard to find people in good health. Mother Earth is sick and needs healing.
We can’t afford to see the catastrophe happening. So let’s take urgent action, play our part and be on the right side of history.
A movement focused on growing edible gardens is the surest way to safe and healthy food, protecting the environment and wellbeing of Mother Earth.
Khoj – Society for People’s Education and Organica Pakistan have decided to play our part. We launched a Together We Will Grow One Thousand Organic Edible Urban Gardens campaign on Earth Day under the leadership of Nasira Habib – a relevant and integrative education pioneer and an expert ecological gardener. The campaign aims at a safer, healthier and happier world by helping people build edible gardens and grow their food based on the principles of agroecology. Growing a garden will deepen our interconnectedness as we connect with nature and build a community of friends of the earth.
Building a thousand organic urban gardens is an ambitious target in Pakistan. But we are confident to have people and organisations participating in the campaign passionate about growing safe food and protecting the environment. With passion and dedication, we can produce wonders.
The campaign team will provide aspiring gardeners with knowledge, hands-on training, beginner-friendly garden kits, in-situation problem shooting and much more. We will also guide to convert lawns into organic food gardens.
We believe that organic gardens at home, school, college, university, workplace and community levels have the power to create more nutritious and sustainable food systems. They also help protect the environment, place us inside nature and change our lifestyle. I invite you to participate in the campaign and help us build a network of urban food growers. Only collectively can we ensure an eco-friendly planet and safe food for ourselves and future generations.
