Sow seeds on ridges about ¼ inch deep in well-drained, fertile soil. Cover loosly with the soil. Keep a distance of 3 inches between the plants and 8 to 12 inches between the rows.

Carrots may take 14 to 21 days to germinate. If you grow radishes between the rows of carrots you can avoid the crusting problems and can also keep track of the carrot seeds.

Keep the soil moist with frequent shallow wterings.

Carrots enjoy full sun but they can also grow well in partial shade.

Water after sowing the seeds. Keep the level of water just below the sown seeds to avoid formation of hard crust on top of the seeds. Seeds will get moisture from the wet soil below.

After germination keep the soil moist but radish plants don’t like wet feet.

Don’t use high nitrogen soil amendments. High nitrogen will result in more foliage than roots.

Sow seeds every 25-30 days to have a steady supply during the whole winter season.
